Fans of NCIS were absolutely crazy about Pauley Perrette and her portrayal of the loveable Goth forensic scientist — almost as crazy about her as the actress is about Joe Biden’s pick for his vice presidential running mate — Senator Kamala Harris! That’s because the two are friends, and the actress recently wrote about their bond.

Pauley Perrette On Kamala Harris

Perrette, who played fan-favorite Abby Sciuto but has since retired from acting, took to her Twitter after news hit on Tuesday that presumptive Democratic Nominee Joe Biden had picked the California senator as his running mate.

“OH HAPPY DAY!!!! MY BELOVED FRIEND #KamalaHarris as VP,” she wrote excitedly to her followers. “Y’all I have known her for over a decade. Yes she’s SO SMART but she’s also so kind and funny! Can’t wait for you to get to know her like I do! Read her book! It’s great! I’m very proud to call her my friend!”

Indeed, the former NCIS mainstay, also shared a picture of the two together, along with an image of her holding Harris’s book, The Truths We Hold. But that’s not all Perrette had to say on the subject of their friendship. She also shared a particularly hard time in her life when the senator showed up for her in a very profound way.

“When attacked, almost killed by an INSANE METHED OUT homeless guy in Nov 2015, my bro @KevinFrazier zoomed to my house, picked me up, drove me to safety from #paparazzi And the 1st person to call me? @KamalaHarris She called, almost in tears worried #love #friend #KamalaHarris,” she revealed.

Unfortunately, the actress also had to deal with more current attacks — for her support of Harris, as trolls began responding in force — but she was having none of it! “I will NOT let bigots/misogynist take away my JOY for my friend #KamalaHarris today! Not policy tweets, Talking about those making #Racist and #Misogynistic tweets & calling her a “HO” especially from women? #SHAME You’ve got #FearOfASmartBlackWoman as maybe you should #KAMALA,” she said back. Those are two strong women that will not suffer fools gladly.
