Meredith Grey is definitely the lead of Grey’s Anatomy, but it feels as if Alex Karev is the heart of the show. Though he started out as the jerk doctor with confidence issues, Alex has transformed into an amazing surgeon with a heart of gold.
From his strong friendship with Meredith (Ellen Pompeo) to his abilities as a doctor, here are the five reasons why Alex has to stay on Grey’s Anatomy forever!
5. BFF Meredith
Bottom line, Alex can’t leave Meredith by herself. Meredith has already lost Cristina Yang and Derek Shepherd, so she can’t also lose Alex! They both need each other and rely on one another like siblings. There’s just no way one could leave without the other.
4. Save The Children
Now that Arizona Robbins has left Seattle, Alex (Justin Chambers) is really the only person in charge of the pediatric department at the hospital. Nobody cares for their patients more than Alex, and he always does everything in his power to help the people he’s caring for. Without Alex, the department would crumble.
3. Miraculous Transformation
Alex can’t leave because he’s the most interesting character. If you look back to the Alex from Season 1 and compare him to the Alex of Season 15, you can see how much he’s grown. Alex has changed so much over the years, and we don’t want to stop now.
2. In Doctor We Trust
So many of the doctors at Grey Sloan Memorial make really bad decisions. From Meredith to Amelia to even Owen, almost every single one of the doctors has done something they probably shouldn’t have done. Now, though Alex isn’t without his faults, he’s really one of the only doctors we’d trust to operate on us.
1. Loving Husband
The number one reason Alex can’t leave is that Jo needs him. These two make the greatest couple and rely on one another so much. If Alex left, Jo probably wouldn’t know what to do with herself.
