Five Fast Facts About Jon Snow on Game of Thrones

With only two episodes of Game of Thrones left, there’s still a lot to uncover and learn about our favorites. While some of the most beloved characters have died over the past eight seasons, there are a few still kicking.

One of the biggest fan favorites is Jon Snow (Kit Harington), who has been a hero since Season 1. Not only is he honorable and kind, but he also is not afraid to get his hands dirty and is definitely one of the bravest people in Westeros. Here are five fast facts about the man who is arguably the most honorable in Westeros.

Not A Bastard
Despite living most of his life believing he’s the bastard son of Ned Stark, Jon is actually a Targaryen. More specifically, he’s the son of Lyanna Stark (Ned’s sister) and Rhaegar Targaryen (Dany’s brother), the Prince of Dragonstone, which makes him the heir to the Iron Throne.

Second Chances
Back in Season 5, Jon was stabbed to death in the heart repeatedly by his brothers in the Night’s Watch. However, he was brought back to life in Season 6 by the Red Woman, showing that the Lord of Light believes there is more he is meant to do in this life.

Sword of Another
Jon’s sword, which is called Longclaw, was gifted to him by Jeor Mormont. However, the sword was actually meant for Jorah Mormont, his son, before he was sent into exile. Jon tried to return it to Jorah but he refused and instead accepted a sword from Sam, Heartsbane, which belonged to his family. Sam knew Jorah could wield it far better.

Infant Illness
Catelyn Stark revealed to her daughter-in-law, Talisa Stark, that she wished death upon Jon when Ned first brought him home many years ago. However, when Jon came down with the pox as a child, Catelyn felt guilty and ended up praying for him to live.

Vow Breaker Who Knows Nothing
Jon was undercover with the Wildings and allowed one of the Free Folk, in particular, Ygritte, who constantly mocked him for knowing so little about life, to make him break his vow of celibacy to the Night’s Watch. The two did fall in love but she was killed, dying in Jon’s arms.
