There’s a good chance you probably had never heard of O.T. Fagbenle until he was cast as Luke Bankole on The Handmaid’s Tale. Though this is his first major role, the actor has been working at his craft for years and is certainly going to be a major star very soon.
From his other special talent to his very successful family, here are five fast facts you need to know about The Handmaid’s Tale actor O.T. Fagbenle!
In the Beginning
Fagbenle may play an American on The Handmaid’s Tale, but he’s acting. He was born in London to a Nigerian father and a British mother and spent most of his life living in England. In fact, he even trained at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts and started his acting career in London.
Along with being an actor, Fagbenle is also a very talented musician. He moved to Spain as a very young child and learned to play the alto saxophone. He was so good, he started playing with the South Coast Jazz Band and they toured the Edinburgh Festival. Not to mention, he also played with bands in Wembley Arena and Royal Albert Hall!
Fagbenle is not the only member of his family in the business. His brother, Luti, is actually a big-time film and music video producer who has worked with artists such as Kanye West, Beyoncé, One Direction, Drake, and Jay-Z. Not to mention his sister, Temi, is a WNBA player and even played for Great Britain at the 2012 Olympics.
The Music Man
Though acting has been his main focus over the past few years, Fagbenle has not completely pushed his music career aside. In fact, he co-wrote the song Storm in 2011 for rapper Tyga, who is a Grammy-nominated artist.
After The Handmaid’s Tale wraps later this year, you won’t have to wait long to see Fagbenle onscreen again because he was recently cast in Marvel’s Black Widow movie. Like most Marvel projects, the plot details, as well as his character, are being kept under wraps, but this is Fagbenle’s first big film role.
