Jason George is currently starring on Station 19 as firefighter Ben Warren, though he still makes appearances as Miranda Bailey’s husband on Grey’s Anatomy. George has been working in Hollywood for over 20 years and has been on seemingly every show imaginable.
From his breakthrough soap opera role to getting an Emmy nomination, here are five fast facts you need to know about the occasional Grey’s Anatomy actor, Jason George.
In the Beginning
Though he currently lives in Los Angeles, California, George was born and raised in Virginia Beach, Virginia. He graduated from the University of Virginia in 1994 and considered becoming a lawyer before he decided to pursue acting. In fact, he was close to receiving a Master of Fine Arts degree but an audition changed everything.
Hitting The Beach
That audition was for George’s breakthrough role in 1996 as lifeguard Michael Bourne on the soap Sunset Beach. George was on the show for all three years until it ended in December of 1999. He was nominated for a Daytime Emmy in 1999 but lost out to Jonathan Jackson (ex-Avery, Nashville), who played Lucky on General Hospital.
Special Skills
As many actors do, George added some extra skills to make himself more marketable. For instance, he’s trained in stage combat and fight choreography. Not only that, but he is also a dancer, can juggle, tumble, and is also into martial arts. He also enjoys track and football.
Living In Shondaland
George currently stars on Station 19, but he’s been on three Shonda Rhimes shows. He first joined Grey’s but soon left to do Off the Map, which only ran for one season. Luckily, he was then brought back on Grey’s Anatomy. He decided to leave Grey’s for Station 19 back in 2018, though he still makes appearances on the medical drama.
Getting Personal
While his character on Grey’s Anatomy and Station 19 has had his ups and downs with wife Miranda Bailey (Chandra Wilson), George has been married to Vandana Khanna since July 10, 1999. They have three children.
