Since both Derek Shepherd and Mark Sloan have sadly left Grey’s Anatomy, Giacomo Gianniotti has become the resident — no pun intended! — McDreamy and McSteamy on the hit drama show.
The handsome actor joined the show back during Season 11, but it has taken some fans a few seasons to warm up to him. But, now that his character Andrew DeLuca is dating Meredith Grey, fans have warmed up and accepted him into the family!
From where he grew up to his acting history, here are five fast facts you need to know about the Italian hunk, Giacomo Gianniotti!
1. Italian Born
Many fans know Gianniotti is Canadian-Italian, but he was actually born in Rome, Italy! He spent the first eight years of his life in Rome before his family decided to immigrate to Canada, which is where he’s spent most of his childhood. He also went to college in Canada.
2. Double Threat
Gianniotti is obviously a great actor, having starred in a number of television shows and movies, but he’s also a great singer! The star regularly posts videos of himself playing the guitar and singing, so it’s no surprise his Grey’s character, DeLuca, also picks up a guitar every now and then.
3. Not His First Rodeo
Grey’s Anatomy is not his first medical drama, believe it or not. Prior to being cast on the ABC show, Gianniotti was on an Italian show called Medicina Generale. Many people described it as the Italian version of daytime soap opera, General Hospital.
4. Sorry Ladies, He’s Taken
We hate to break it to you, but Gianniotti is actually engaged! He proposed to his girlfriend, Nicki, back in December 2017. They have yet to tie the knot, but the pair seem to be happier than ever.
5. Just A Baby
Believe it or not, Gianniotti is the second youngest actor to be cast as a series regular on Grey’s Anatomy, coming in just behind Chyler Leigh, who played Lexie. While Gianniotti was 26 when he first signed on, Leigh was 25!
