There have been a lot of wonderful relationships on Grey’s Anatomy through the years, but none have come close to Meredith Grey and Derek Shepherd’s romance. From the moment those two met back in Season 1 Episode 1, there was no turning back.
Despite their very sad ending, Mer and Der had a beautiful relationship that lasted over a decade. Here are the top five moments from their relationship.
1. Choose Me, Love Me
Derek was juggling his ex-wife Addison and Meredith at the same time, and while Meredith tried to initially play it cool, she reached her breaking point in Season 2. Then, of course, came one of the best Grey’s Anatomy speeches of all time, in which Meredith begged Derek to “pick me, choose me, love me.” Our hearts will never be the same.
2. Big Save
Meredith was almost a goner after she fell into the water during that ferry boat accident back in Season 3, but luckily Derek came to her rescue. Though she was nearly a goner, they were able to bring her back to life.

3. Dream House
Meredith for the win! After the couple had been going through some rough times, Meredith decided to build the couple’s dream home…out of candles! It was a gesture that must’ve taken her hours to create, and it actually laid the foundation for their real dream home.
4. Elevator Proposal
This moment was probably the most romantic proposal in Grey’s Anatomy history. Since everything important always happened in the elevator, Derek decided to propose to Meredith with brain scans inside an elevator. Romance at its finest!
5. Post-It Wedding
Fans will remember Meredith and Derek giving up their wedding so that Izzie and Alex could tie the knot. Because they no longer had a venue to get married, Meredith and Derek decided to let go of traditions and write down their vows on a post-it note. Who needs a church anyway?!
