Five Fast Facts About The Good Place Star Jameela Jamil

Jameela Jamil is a TV host, radio personality, and now a very successful actor — currently starring as Tahani in the hit NBC show, The Good Place. The comedy is about to start its fourth and final season this fall.

From her tough childhood to how she landed her first television show, here are five fast facts you need to know about The Good Place star, Jameela Jamil.

In the Beginning
Jamil was unfortunately born with congenital hearing loss and labyrinthitis, so she needed a number of operations to correct the issue. She recently revealed she can hear about 70% in her left ear and 50% in her right ear.

Tough Issues
As a teenager, Jamil experienced something that affects so many adolescents (and older) who are dealing with body issues — she suffered from the eating disorder anorexia. In fact, she revealed she didn’t have a full meal from the ages of 14 to 17. She now tries to help others with the issue.

Walking Miracle
As if her life wasn’t already difficult enough, Jamil was hit by a car at the age of 17 while she was running away from a bee. The accident broke several bones in her body and also damaged her spine. She was told she’d never be able to walk again, but she worked hard to fight her way back.

No Acting Experience Required
After hosting a number of television shows in the UK, Jamil decided to move to Los Angeles to pursue a career in radio. She was eventually contacted by the creator of The Good Place, Mike Schur, who wanted her to audition for the role of Tahani. Though she had no prior acting experience, she landed the job!

Getting Personal
Jamil has been in a relationship with British musician James Black since 2015. Though they are very private, they have done a few red carpet events together.
