Her parents, who divorced when she was 10 years old, sent her and Derek to train in London. They began dancing at the Italia Conti Academy of Theatre Arts and started entering dance competitions. By 15, Hough became the youngest dancer to win both the Junior World Latin Championship and the International Latin Youth Championship.
First Acting Role
Hough has been in a number of movies over the years, including Footloose, Rock of Ages, and Safe Haven, but her first acting role was actually in Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone. Though the role was uncredited, she played one of the schoolgirls and can even be spotted during one of the Quidditch matches.
Health Struggles
Hough struggles with endometriosis, a disorder in which the tissue that lines the uterus starts to grow outside of the uterus. This condition is very painful and can make it difficult for women to have children. Hough has been vocal about how the diagnosis has affected her life and the steps she’s currently taking to become a mother.
Open About Her Sexuality
Hough began dating her husband, former NHL player Brooks Laich, in December 2013. The couple got engaged in August 2015 and tied the knot on July 8, 2017. Hough recently revealed that she doesn’t consider herself to be straight. Though she doesn’t label herself, she did tell her husband about her sexual fluidity after they married.
