Emily Maynard not only starred on one of Brad Womack’s seasons of The Bachelor, she also became The Bachelorette herself back in 2012. While it was fun seeing her fall in love on television, Maynard has an incredible backstory that is both heartbreaking and beautiful.
From a very personal tragedy to her current happiness, here are five fast facts you need to know about the former Bachelorette!
Horrible Loss
Years before going on The Bachelor, Maynard tragically lost her fiancé, former NASCAR driver Ricky Hendrick, in a plane crash. She also happened to be pregnant with his child at the time of his death, so Maynard decided to name their daughter Ricki after him.
Broken Engagements
Maynard was on Brad Womack’s second season of The Bachelor and she ended up getting engaged to him at the end of it all. However, they called off their engagement shortly after it happened. She then became The Bachelorette and got engaged to Jef Holm, but their engagement only lasted about six months.
Big Move
When Maynard became The Bachelorette back in 2012, they moved the show from Los Angeles to Charlotte, North Carolina. They decided to do this because of Maynard’s daughter, who was very young at the time.
Lasting Love
Though both of her Bachelor engagements didn’t work out, Maynard did find love with her current husband, Tyler Johnson. The happy couple tied the knot back in 2014 and continue to be happy to this day.
Happily Ever After
Since marrying Johnson just five years ago, Maynard has welcomed three children with her husband! Along with her daughter Ricki they have sons Jennings, Gibson, and Gatlin.
