Though Bonnie Carlson wasn’t necessarily one of the main characters in Season 1 of Big Little Lies, she had a big moment at the very end of the season that immediately brought her closer to the group.
Now with Season 2 underway, it’ll be interesting to see how she handles their big secret. From her passion in life to her marriage, here are five fast facts you need to know about Bonnie (Zoë Kravitz) from Big Little Lies!
Yoga Instructor
Bonnie is a free spirit and a yoga instructor. Unlike the other moms in Monterey, Bonnie is very centered and relaxed, as she doesn’t let the pressures of her community seem to get to her.
The Other Woman
Bonnie is also married to Madeline Mackenzie’s (Reese Witherspoon) ex-husband, Nathan Carlson (James Tupper). Together they have one daughter together named Skye, who just so happens to be the same age as Madeline’s daughter with Ed (Adam Scott), Chloe.
Beloved Stepmom
One of the major plot points in Season 1 is Bonnie’s close relationship with Madeline and Nathan’s daughter, Abigail (Kathryn Newton). In fact, Abigail decides to move out of Madeline’s house so she can live with her dad and Bonnie. This makes Madeline very resentful of Bonnie.
Square Peg
Ultimately, Bonnie doesn’t feel like she fits in. She is one of the only black people in Monterey, a point her mother makes in Season 2, and she’s not necessarily interested in the same things the other moms are interested in.
Feeling Guilty
At the end of Season 1, Bonnie was the one who pushed Perry (Alexander Skarsgard) down the stairs to his death. Though she did it to protect Celeste and it was an act of self-defense, Bonnie feels an extreme amount of guilt for his death.
