Celeste Wright is one of the core four Monterey moms on HBO’s hit show, Big Little Lies. Though her life looks perfect and pretty from the outside, Celeste deals with a lot of darkness and holds on to a lot of secrets.
In honor of the second season premiering this Sunday, here are five fast facts about Celeste (Nicole Kidman) of Big Little Lies.
BFFs
Celeste is best friends with Madeline Mackenzie (Reese Witherspoon) and their kids go to school together. While Madeline is loud and outspoken, Celeste is much quieter and reserved. From the outside to her friends, it appears Celeste has the perfect life.
Abuse Victim
Though her life seems perfect, Celeste is actually a victim of abuse. Her husband, Perry (Alexander Skarsgård), physically and emotionally abuses her on a fairly regular basis. She never tells anybody, except their therapist whom she is also seeing by herself.

Former Lawyer
Before becoming a full-time wife and mother, Celeste was a very successful lawyer. However, she decided to stop practicing law once she had her twins. After helping out Madeline with an issue, she realizes that she misses being a lawyer and that being a mother isn’t fulfilling enough.
Like Father, Like Son
It’s revealed during the last episode that one of Celeste’s sons, Max, actually choked Amabella, Renata’s (Laura Dern) daughter, during the first day of school. The whole time Renata had blamed Ziggy, Jane’s (Shailene Woodley) son. Realizing her home life has caused this becomes a breaking point for Celeste.
Boiling Point
Celeste finally garners up the courage to tell Perry she’s leaving him the night of the school fundraiser. Perry then confronts Celeste at the party and starts hurting her. Her friends try to stop him, but it wasn’t until Bonnie (Zoe Kravitz) pushes him down a flight of stairs and kills him that she was truly safe.
