Amanda Rollins joined Law & Order: SVU in Season 13 and has had a profound impact on the team during her tenure. Much like the rest of her fellow detectives, Amanda’s tough upbringing has made her the person she is today.
From her addiction to her children, here are five fast facts you should know about tough as nails but tenderhearted Amanda Rollins (Kelli Giddish).
Atlanta Native
Amanda is from Atlanta, but she specifically grew up in Loganville, Georgia. She worked for the Atlanta PD before moving to New York City. She is also a fan of the Atlanta Braves.
Tough Upbringing
Unfortunately, Amanda comes from a very dysfunctional family. Her father was an alcoholic who beat her mother. Her father also had a gambling addiction, which Amanda has as well. Not to mention, her younger sister Kim has bipolar disorder who turned Amanda’s life upside down more than once. But SVU has stood by Amanda.
Why She Moved
The reason Amanda decided to move to New York City is because of a situation that went down with her former boss, Deputy Chief Charles Patton. When her sister got in trouble with the law, Amanda decided to sleep with Patton to get the charges dropped. But, when he became too rough and Amanda withdrew her consent, he raped her.
Getting Personal
Amanda has two daughters, Jesse Rollins and Billie Rollins. The father of Jessie is Lieutenant Declan Murphy and the father of Billie is Amanda’s ex-boyfriend, Al Pollack. Her co-worker, Carisi, has been very attentive but so far Amanda hasn’t seemed to respond other than appreciating his friendship.
Cyber Expert
If there is an online component to any of SVU’s cases (and let’s face, there almost always is), Amanda is the one everyone turns to in order to scour the Internet for the latest clue. Considering she’s one of the youngest on the SVU team, this isn’t completely surprising.
