Gabourey Sidibe has been a part of the Empire family since the very beginning in 2015, but she just had a major first on the show earlier this month. The 35-year-old, who plays Becky Williams, directed the 13th episode of Season 5 and it was a major deal for the star.

In a behind-the-scenes video from Sidibe’s directorial debut, she talks about the process of directing for the first time on the show.

“I honestly was way more afraid to do this then the part of me who actually showed up to do this. I’m pretty good at projecting confidence, whether it’s there or not. Directing is just you making the decisions,” she shared.
