It’s been a few months since Game of Thrones aired its final episode after an epic run on HBO, but star Emilia Clarke is still letting go of her iconic character, Daenerys Targaryen.
Clarke played Daenerys for eight seasons over nine years, so it’s no surprise it’s taken some time to move on from the role. The actress shared a post on Instagram on Friday, that included pictures from a gorgeous hike with friends.
“The long and winding road to kicking off khaleesi’s boots and trudging home in my own shoes once again. @imogen_f_lloyd you and these staggering mountains got my head to chill and my ass to light it’s own goddamn fire,” she captioned the photo.
“Insta world it’s been a journey to get here but hell im happy to stop and admire that view… #sweatingmywaythroughthecobwebs #goodbyemylover #whenchangeisacomingdontgorunning #stopandsmellthe5dayhikedbootsnotroses #dolomitesyouhavemyheartsoulandsweat.”
It’s been a massive year for Clarke, as not only did Game of Thrones come to an end, but she also snagged an Emmy nomination for Best Actress in a Drama Series! Clarke reflected on the show on Instagram following the final episode and revealed how much the show has meant to her.
“The mother of dragons chapter has taken up the whole of my adult life. This woman has taken up the whole of my heart. I’ve sweated in the blaze of dragon fire, shed many tears at those who left our family early, and wrung my brain dry trying to do Khaleesi and the masterful words, actions (and names) I was given, justice,” she said.
“Game of Thrones has shaped me as a woman, as an actor and as a human being. I just wish my darling dad was here now to see how far we’ve flown.”
So it’s easy to see why the young actress, who played the role for a huge portion of her life, might find it challenging to leave her alter ego behind but it looks like she found the perfect way to center herself and move forward.
