Tribute By Ellen Pompeo
In fact, Pompeo presented the U.S. Women’s National Soccer team with the Badass Women Award at the InStyle Magazine Awards on Monday, October 21 and shared a photo following the event to Instagram.
“Had the best time at the @instylemagazine awards presenting the US WOMENS WORLD CHAMPION SOCCER TEAM with the Badass Women Award. This team made up of 23 players broke all kinds of records with the broadcasts of their games as well as the merchandise sales,” Pompeo captioned the photo.
“They inspire women and girls all over the world with their work ethic, fighting spirit and all around positivity. Honored to have met you ladies, thanks for a super fun night!” Ellen Pompeo added.
Badass Women
Five members of the team, captain Alex Morgan, Ali Krieger, Kelly O’Hara, Carli Lloyd, and Ashlyn Harris, were present to pick up the award and Morgan spoke about the importance of fighting for equal pay in their sport.
“This year has been incredibly meaningful for us as a team and as individuals. We challenged long-standing inequity in our sport and the wave of support we received from our fans on and off the field was more than we could have ever imagined,” the soccer star shared.
“I promise you that we will unapologetically continue to use our strength to advocate for social justice and equal pay for women everywhere.”
Winners Circle
The U.S. Women’s team won their fourth World Cup title over the summer, which also happened to be their second title in a row, and recently sued the U.S. Soccer Federation over gender discrimination.
During the World Cup, countless celebrities – including Mandy Moore, Taylor Swift, Jessica Chastain, Sophia Bush, and many others — celebrated their victory and vocalized their support for the team’s fight for equal pay.
