Things are looking up for Dynasty’s perennial schemer, especially since her marriage to Jeff Colby is no longer in name only. And things are just as bright for Elaine Hendrix, who is poised to celebrate a very special milestone.
Happy Birthday, Elaine Hendrix!
And that’s because she was born on December 28, 1970, in Oak Ridge, Tennessee, which means that this much-beloved actress is turning 50 years old today! Hendrix initially harbored dreams of being a professional model and dancer.
For a time, she worked as a member of Gary Harrison’s Dance company, performed in a number of music videos for hip-hop artists such as Whodini, Keith Sweat, and MC Hammer, and modeled for corporations like Nike, Levi’s, Mattel, and Sun Microsystems.
After being run down by a car whilst bicycling, Hendrix retired her dancing ambitions and instead turned her attention to acting. She made her film and TV debut in 1992 in Last Dance and an episode of Doogie Howser, M.D. respectively.
On the small screen, she appeared as a guest star on Fallen Angels (1993), as Brandee Fields on Days of our Lives (1994), and Ellen (1995), and in late 1995, Hendrix landed a leading role in the same-titled Get Smart continuation.
In the aftermath of that series cancellation, Hendrix could be seen in episodes of Married…With Children (1997), The Weber Show (2000), First Years (2001), and Friends (2002). Hendrix also had recurring roles in The Chronicle (2001-2002), Joan of Arcadia (2003-2005), The Middleman (2008), Poor Paul (2009-2011), and 90210 (2010-2011).
Between 2015 and 2016, she starred alongside Denis Leary and Elizabeth Gillies in the FX series Sex, Drugs & Rock & Roll. Since 2019, she has played Alexis Morell Carrington Colby on Dynasty, a serial that reunited her with Gillies. Hendrix assumed the role of Alexis from Gillies (who also plays Alexis’s daughter, Fallon), who had herself replaced Nicollette Sheridan.
Hendrix’s other acting credits include the films Romy and Michelle’s High School Reunion (1997) and Inspector Gadget 2 (2003). But it was as the mean, almost-stepmother Meredith Blake in the Lindsay Lohan remake of The Parent Trap back in 1998 that solidified her place in pop culture history — a role for which she is still remembered by fans today.
Hendrix is an avid animal rights activist, and the founder of The Pet Matchmaker, an organization dedicated to celebrating and inspiring the fostering, adoption, and rescue of homeless pets.
