Actor Dennis Quaid is beloved for his roles in films such as Breaking Away, The Rookie, The Parent Trap, and A Dog’s Journey, but he recently was in the news for something outside of the world of entertainment — and now it has led to a surprising new project.
The actor saved a cat from an animal shelter whose name just happens to be Dennis Quaid, and now the story will be told on TV. According to Deadline, Quaid (the human) has teamed with ITV America’s Leftfield Pictures, on an unscripted series that will document him adopting the cat from a Lynchburg, Va.-based shelter.
“I’ve been lucky enough to be associated with the wonderful world of pets through my involvement in recent films. And while I’ve traditionally been more of a dog person, when I heard that ‘Dennis Quaid the Cat’ was in peril, I knew I had to act quick,” Quaid said. “It’s been amazing to see the public’s response to our little pet adoption, and during a difficult year for all of us, I’m glad it offered some levity and brightness. I’m very much looking forward to sharing kitty Quaid’s story with viewers and listeners in these new projects.”
Quaid and Jimmy Jellinek cohost a pet podcast, The Pet Show, and he’ll be talking about his new cat on the show in the weeks to come.
The actor also posted a photo of his new pet’s arrival on his Instagram page and thanked his co-host, who went on a cross-country voyage to bring the cat home.
“Next we’ll see how Peaches reacts… she’s used to being an only child,” Quaid posted about his dog. “More updates coming soon.”
The Hollywood icon has also recently started another podcast appropriately titled, The Dennissance, where he interviews actors, politicians, personalities, musicians, and innovative business leaders.
“It’s people who I have known in my life and it’s fun to find out what makes them tick in a different way than you might see in other interviews,” Quaid said in a recent interview with this reporter. “I like to have people on who have other interests outside of what we know them for. And they have to be a good talker.”
