Dallas Stars Reunite To Raise Money During Coronavirus Pandemic

The primetime soap Dallas was destination TV on Friday nights throughout the 1980s. Now, cast members of the show are reuniting to help raise money for those suffering during the coronavirus shutdown on (when else?) Friday night (tonight)!

Dallas Stars Reunite

According to the Twitter account @DallasFanzine, four cast members of the legendary drama — Patrick Duffy (Bobby), Linda Gray (Sue Ellen), Steve Kanaly (Ray), and Charlene Tilton (Lucy) — will take part in a live stream produced by Stars in the House.

The online reunion, which fans can watch, will help benefit The Actors’ Fund COVID-19 efforts. The company that’s putting this together has already done reunions featuring cast members from Desperate Housewives, Taxi, China Beach, and other programs.

Dallas ran for 13 seasons on CBS. The show’s pilot, Digger’s Daughter, introduced the Ewings as Bobby brought his new bride Pamela (Victoria Principal) home to Southfork to meet his family. J.R., the Emmy-nominated Larry Hagman, took an immediate dislike to his new sister-in-law but failed to run her off the ranch.

Initially, Dallas featured self-contained episodes. It wasn’t long before it took on a serial format as episodes ended with dramatic moments prompting viewers to tune in the following week. Each season would end with a huge cliffhanger, the most famous left everyone asking — who shot J.R.?!

After Dallas ended its run, CBS aired two reunion movies — 1996’s Dallas: J.R. Returns and 1998’s Dallas: War of the Ewings. In 2012, Dallas was revived. The new series, which ran for three seasons on TNT, was anchored by Hagman, Gray, and Duffy. Other original cast members made appearances throughout the run.

One of the show’s most memorable early episodes was its fourth, titled Winds of Vengeance, which guest-starred the late Brian Dennehy as Luther Frick, a man who held the Ewings at gunpoint after finding out that J.R. had slept with his wife!

“Such beautiful memories working with Brian Dennehy,” the Emmy-nominated Gray posted on Instagram. “Followed his career ever since we worked together…on the original DALLAS. What a wonderful actor and human being. It was an honor to work with him. RIP dear Brian.”

Don’t miss the Dallas reunion on Friday, April 24 at 8 p.m. You can join in on the fun by clicking on Stars in the House’ YouTube channel.
