The Crown Has Cast Their Princess Diana For Season 4

You saw that right — despite not having released Season 3 with its entirely new cast in all the key roles, The Crown has officially cast its Princess Diana for Season 4!

Actress Emma Corrin will be playing Lady Diana Spencer. Filming for the fourth season will begin in late 2019, which coincidentally is when Season 3 is set to drop on the streaming service, Netflix.

“I have been glued to the show and to think I’m now joining this incredibly talented acting family is surreal,” Corrin said in a statement released by Netflix on Tuesday, April 9.

“Princess Diana was an icon and her effect on the world remains profound and inspiring. To explore her through Peter Morgan’s writing is the most exceptional opportunity and I will strive to do her justice!”

The Crown creator Peter Morgan also released a statement to The Hollywood Reporter and revealed how excited they are to have Corrin join the cast.

“Emma is a brilliant talent who immediately captivated us when she came in for the part of Diana Spencer,” Morgan shared.

“As well as having the innocence and beauty of a young Diana, she also has, in abundance, the range and complexity to portray an extraordinary woman who went from anonymous teenager to becoming the most iconic woman of her generation.”

Among the casting announced for Season 3 is Olivia Colman, fresh off her Best Actress Oscar win for The Favourite, taking over the role of Queen Elizabeth from Claire Foy, who played the iconic character for two seasons and won the Emmy for Outstanding Lead Actress.

Helena Bonham Carter will also be in Season 3 as Princess Margaret while Tobias Menzies is playing Prince Philip.
