Christie Brinkley Replaced On Dancing With The Stars After Injury

Season 28 of Dancing With the Stars premieres tonight, Monday, September 16, but it’s already making a major casting change. Christie Brinkley sadly suffered an injury while rehearsing for the first episode this weekend and is out for the season — but wait until you find out who is replacing her!

It’s actually one of her children who has come to her rescue! Her daughter, Sailor Brinkley-Cook, is filling in and is going to be performing in her mom’s place for the remainder of the season.

The announcement was made on the Dancing With the Stars Instagram page early Monday morning and it revealed that Brinkley suffered injuries to her wrist and arm that have caused her to pull out of the competition show.

“While rehearsing for the premiere of ‘Dancing with the Stars,’ Christie Brinkley suffered injuries which required surgery to her wrist and arm. She is unable to continue her planned participation on the show,” the post said.

“Keeping it all in the family, her daughter Sailor Brinkley Cook, a Sports Illustrated model, has chosen to quickly step in with hours to learn the entire routine and will compete in her mother’s place for the remainder of the season. We wish Christie a full and speedy recovery and look forward to seeing her in the audience, whenever possible, proudly supporting Sailor.”

The injury appears to have happened on Sunday, September 15, as Brinkley shared a post earlier in the day revealing how happy she was to hit the dance floor on Monday. “I’m so excited for tomorrow’s show! @dancingabc,” she wrote.

While we’re sad to see the 65-year-old have to sit this one out, Brinkley-Cook, who is also the daughter of Peter Cook, may end up being a great replacement. Not only is she a Sports Illustrated model, but she’s also 21 years old, so she should have the stamina to fill in for her mother on such short notice.

And, while we can’t wait to see Brinkley-Cook hit the dance floor, it also would’ve been interesting if Brinkley’s other daughter — singer Alexa Ray Joel — had taken her mother’s spot, as she’s also the daughter of Billy Joel, which could have added a little Uptown Girl (the music video of the song her parent collaborated on) magic.
