Shannen Doherty isn’t alone in her fight against cancer. The actress recently revealed that the cancer she beat a while back has returned. Now, stars are speaking out in support of her.
Celebs Show Shannen Doherty Support
Rose McGowan, whose character filled the void on Charmed that was left by Doherty when she exited the series, posted encouraging words on Instagram for her colleague.
“We are with you in spirit,” the actress/activist posted. “You are a brave warrior woman and inspire so many. I send you strength and peace on your journey #shannendoherty #charmed.”
While McGown and Doherty never appeared on Charmed together, that could change should the show be revived again (it currently has a new incarnation on The CW) with the original actresses gathered together.
On the original, which ran from 1998-2006, Doherty played Prue Halliwell, who had the power of telekinesis. Her TV sisters Phoebe and Piper were played, respectively, by Alyssa Milano (Who’s the Boss) and Holly Marie Combs. After Doherty left the series in Season 3, McGown joined the show as Paige, Phoebe and Piper’s half-sister.
Milano also voiced her support on Instagram saying, “Holding you tight in my heart, @theshando 🙏”
A Charmed Life
According to Out.com, McGowen was asked at the Paris Manga & Sci-Fi Show if she’d like to return to the series along with Doherty. “That’s a really hard one,” she replied. “I think I would if it was a limited series, like maybe Netflix or Amazon or eight episodes, that would be amazing. […] I would hope that Shannen Doherty would be in it, too.”
In 2018, The CW did a reboot of Charmed with new characters played by Melonie Diaz, Madeleine Mantock, and Sarah Jeffery, which was recently renewed for a third season.
Buffy the Vampire Slayer star Sarah Michelle Gellar (a Daytime Emmy winner for her run as Kendall Hart on All My Children) also used Instagram to support her good friend. “Life is tough… but you are tougher,” Gellar posted. Entertainment Hub joins Doherty’s family, friends, and fans in wishing her the best as she continues her cancer fight.
