Big Little Lies Flashback Video: Inside Season 1, Episode 3

Season 1 of Big Little Lies started off with a bang and kept getting crazier and crazier as the episodes went on. In Episode 3, Shailene Woodley’s character, Jane, reveals to Reese Witherspoon’s character, Madeline Mackenzie, that her son Ziggy is the result of a rape.

In the video above, Big Little Lies director Jean-Marc Vallée explains how they handled that specific scene and the clues they give the audience.

“She’s going to talk about it and then we’re going to see it. She’s going to have an out-of-body experience and this is how we’re going to show the rape. The shoes, the specific heel, will allow us to have footsteps in the sand and have specific footsteps,” he says in the clip.
