Allison Janney has taken to social media to laud the cast and crew of Mom in the wake of CBS’s announcement that the beloved comedy would be permanently ending in the spring.
Allison Janney’s Heartfelt Tribute
Janney’s missive comes one day after the Eye network revealed that the previously scheduled Season 8 finale, which is set to air Thursday, May 6, will now serve as a series finale.
The actress began her lengthy and heartfelt Instagram post with the declaration, “Getting to be part of Mom these past eight years — showing the laughter, love and hope that can come with recovery — has been one of the great honors of my life.”
She went on to thank the comedy’s executive producers, Chuck Lorre, Gemma Baker, and Nick Bakay, and the writing staff “for giving us these wonderfully flawed and lovable characters to bring to life. I miss seeing all of your faces.”
Janney also gave shout-outs to her fellow actors – Mimi Kennedy, Jaime Pressly, Kristen Johnston, Beth Hall, William Fichtner, and Anna Faris – director Jamie Widdoes, and the entire production crew. Then she thanked the show’s “extraordinary fans” for the support they had shown since the pilot episode.
Johnston, who’s played Tammy Diffendorf since Season 4, likewise expressed her opinion on Mom coming to an end and her experiences as an actress on the program. She tweeted: “Such a huge bummer. This show has been such a total joy & honor to be a part of. It’s been life-changing for me to be on a show that’s about recovery & women supporting each other thru thick & thin. Plus, Mom has the BEST fans ever.”
The cancellation notice comes one year after the departure of original cast member Faris, who exited the sitcom in order to “pursue new opportunities.” Whether or not Faris will make a special appearance in the final episode remains to be seen.
