Before the hosts of The View delved into Hot Topics on Monday morning, one of them had big news of her own to share. And it’s going to change the panel lineup from now on.
Abby Huntsman, who joined the show in September 2018, announced on the ABC talk show that she was exiting the popular discussion program. Her last show is set to air this Friday, January 17.
“This is something I thought a lot about,” Huntsman said in her farewell speech. “This panel is pretty special. It will always go down as a crucial time for the show.”
Huntsman said it was a desire to be with — and work for — her family that prompted her decision to exit her gig as a daily talk show host. “As you guys know, my number one priority is my family — that’s something you, Whoopi [Goldberg], taught me.”
Months ago, Huntsman says she was asked to help her father, Jon Huntsman, run for the governor of Utah. She contemplated much over the recent holidays as to what her decision would be.
“There’s no one I believe in more right now than my own dad,” she said. “He believes in me to go and help him run [his campaign]. It’s going to be a fast race. June is the primary. I couldn’t be more excited about helping someone I love.”
Huntsman’s career with ABC goes back to her teen years. She began her career at the age of 19, booking cars overnight for Good Morning America. “I want to thank you all,” she said, turning to her co-stars. “Meghan [McCain], you and I will be friends forever.”
Huntsman went on to thank the casting executives who hired her, the show’s executive producers, the staff — which she calls the “engine” of The View, and, finally, the viewers. “Thank you for welcoming me into your home. I’m excited about the next chapter. Thank you to all of you.”
“We will miss, you,” McCain said. “You always see the good in everything. I’m heartbroken you’re leaving. I can understand better than anybody how important it is to support your dad. Leading a gubernatorial campaign is a really incredible reason to leave a show. I’m proud of you and I’m happy for you and I do hope you’ll come back.”
“You’re on of the nicest and easiest people I’ve ever work with,” added Joy Behar. “Keep in touch. Don’t dump us.” The View airs weekdays on ABC. Check local listings for air times.
