In the July 17 episode of Days of our Lives, EJ has lost control of the hospital, watched his Versavix investment collapse, and saw Gwen score a major victory over him. Then, just as it looked like he had run out of ways to strike back, someone grabbed Gwen from behind. With EJ already plotting to banish Kristen to a remote DiMera island, it suddenly feels possible that Salem could be headed for a very different kind of prison story.

Key Takeaways

  • Gwen celebrated after outmaneuvering EJ in the fight over the hospital.
  • EJ’s authority over the hospital was stripped away as more of his plans unraveled.
  • Rita appeared to give EJ pills that were likely Coriseal, and Tate later found them in Holly’s bag.
  • Someone attacked Gwen from behind and apparently abducted her.

What Happened on DAYS

Things could not have gone much worse for EJ (Dan Feuerriegel). His ownership rights to the hospital were revoked, opening the door for Gwen (Emily O’Brien) to step in with her own offer to buy it. Watching Gwen come out on top only added to his growing list of frustrations after the Versavix project fell apart and his investment crashed.

Meanwhile, Rita (Maggie Carney) quietly handed EJ a small envelope that looked like it held a key, but it actually contained Coriseal pills. By the end of the episode, Tate discovered pills in Holly’s bag, raising even more questions about whether EJ planted the evidence himself and if he’s truly crossed over into absolute villainy.

The biggest shock came in the final moments. Gwen never saw her attacker coming as someone slipped in behind her, held a cloth over her mouth, and began carrying out what looked like a planned abduction.

Why It Matters

This immediately brings Kristen (Stacy Haiduk) back into the picture. Earlier in the week, Lexie (Nikki Crawford) warned Kristen that EJ had arranged for her to disappear to a DiMera-owned island, where she would spend the rest of her life out of sight. Now that Gwen has become EJ’s newest enemy, it is hard not to wonder whether she is headed for the very same destination.

There is another wrinkle, though. Kristen knows EJ’s plan because Lexie warned her. That gives her an advantage EJ never expected. If Kristen stays one step ahead of him, his carefully laid scheme could fall apart before it ever begins.

The Fallout

The other possibility is even more interesting. If Gwen really is being shipped off to the island and Kristen eventually ends up there too, Salem could suddenly have one of its strangest partnerships. These two have spent plenty of time at each other’s throats, especially after the Xander (Paul Telfer) drama, but survival has a funny way of changing priorities.

There is also one more card waiting to be played. Gwen spent much of this episode training in self-defense with Tate (Leo Howard). Soap operas rarely spend that much time teaching someone new skills on-screen unless those skills are about to matter. If her captor thinks Gwen will go quietly, the next episode may have a surprise waiting for him.
