Soap writers sometimes get lost in their own creations. They will follow one storyline down the wormhole and lose sight of some of the players in the vast canvas on which they are working. Talented thespians are placed on the back burner twiddling their thumbs, aching for a juicy story that their character can step into the spotlight and play to the hilt. Here are a few Days of our Lives characters who are most in the need of a storyline in 2022.
If you are a long-time fan of Days of our Lives, you might remember the days of young Chloe Lane, Philip Kiriakis, Belle Black, Shawn Brady, Mimi Lockhart, and Jan Spears navigating their younger years. From love triangles, teen angst, jealous rivalries, devious bullying, and let’s not forget the school dances (AKA The Last Blast), DAYS captured and held our attention through it all. The biggest hole in Salem right now is a lively teen set.
Ava Vitali (Tamara Braun) has always been a little “off”…in the most fun way. Whether she was stalking Steve “Patch” Johnson, manipulating Joey Johnson (James Lastovic), working with Philip Kiriakis (Jay Kenneth Johnson), covering for her now-deceased son Charlie Dale (Mike Manning), or seducing good-guy Rafe Hernandez (Galen Gering), Braun has played the femme fatale with mob-ties like a finely tuned fiddle. It has been a shame Days of our Lives has reduced her storyline to a jealous-ridden love interest. Give this two-time Daytime Emmy Award winner some meaty material and watch her soar.
From the moment Rafe stepped into Salem as an FBI agent assigned to protect Sami Brady (Alison Sweeney), who was in witness protection, fans fell for the loveable, unlucky-in-love officer of the law. After being burned by Cupid’s arrow (Sami, Jordan, Kate, Hope, Nicole, and now Ava) many times, Rafe has been reduced to being haunted by a stuffed teddy bear and waffling between feelings for Nicole Walker (Arianne Zucker) and Ava. He needs a really good murder mystery to investigate and a new love interest ASAP!
Speaking of a really good murder mystery, why are Days of our Lives writers not throwing some love in the direction of Eli Grant (Lamon Archey)? After introducing his character as the grandson of legacy characters, Doug Williams (Bill Hayes) and Julie Williams (Susan Seaforth Hayes), Archey won over fans and critics alike. But, more recently, his storylines are relegated to a visit and a kiss on the cheek bestowed upon his beloved grandmother, Julie, or an occasional supportive spouse and father appearance with Lani (Sal Stowers) along with their toddler twins, Jules and Carver (Arya and Wynter Wells).
Jack Deveraux (Matthew Ashford) immediately stole hearts and built a die-hard fan following when he stepped into Salem back in 1987. DAYS has treated fans with many smashing Deveraux storylines through the years, such as finding out that Steve Johnson was his brother, abandoning his political goals to become a journalist, the creation of the supercouple that is Jack and Jennifer Deveraux (Melissa Reeves), and, let’s not forget such adventure stories as the Cruise of Deception and the Salem Stalker. We could use a new one in 2022.
