Days of our Lives April Fools’ episode proved that the show is at its best when it goes completely crazy – and self-aware that it’s doing it.

Days of our Lives: Winning Argument

Jan (Heather Lindell) had a valid point when she noted to Shawn (Brandon Beemer) that she has gone above and beyond to prove her love for him, whereas Belle (Martha Madison)… just kind of showed up.

That sterling logic is certainly preferable to her either faking not remembering trying to ruin Shawn and Belle’s wedding… or actually not remembering it.

Which leads to John’s (Drake Hogysten) periodic outbursts. Now that Jan is awake, we have to go back to that story, and the consequences of it. Which we know will ultimately be done. Fans can certainly sympathize with Sami’s (Allison Sweeney) frustration, and her desire to see him sentenced to death.

If only so he’ll stop talking about how he and Doc love their strawberries and cream. Do you really think your kids want to hear about your still vibrant sex life? That is a death penalty offense!

The Naked and the Dead

Xander (Paul Telfer) in nothing but a priest’s collar is always a good thing, and Chloe (Nadia Bjorlin) revisiting Ghoul Girl before Claire (Isabel Durant) All About Eve’s her, was all in good fun.

Though we’ll admit, having Claire sexily call Philip (Jay Kenneth Johnson) “Daddy” when, for the first years of her life, she really did believe he was her dad, was a bit much for long-time fans.

A Wink and a Smile

But all of that was redeemed with Kayla (Mary Beth Evans) and Steve’s (Stephen Nichols) Baby Stefano story. Not only did it make us think of Alien when he was born and immediately “slithered off,” but their final, literal wink to the audience: “The other eye!” – proved that DAYS would be better off leaning into the silliness, than trying to balance it with their version of socially relevant drama.
