VIDEO FLASHBACK: Why Steve Was Called Patch

The friendship between Steve Johnson and Bo Brady on Days of Our Lives (DOOL) is legendary. But there was a time when a woman named Britta came between them and changed things forever.

In a series of flashbacks, DAYS illustrated the close friendship between Steve (Stephen Nichols) and Bo (Peter Reckell), back when the two were in the Merchant Marines and stationed in Stockholm. It was Christmastime and Steve got Bo a present — and shared news — both of which would have a long and lasting affect on the best pals.

The news was that Steve had quickly fallen in love with a woman named Britta. The three became inseparable. In an ironic twist, Steve gifted Bo with the very knife that Bo would later use to take out Steve’s eye in a fit of jealous rage.
