Some prominent characters bid adieu to Days of Our Lives (DOOL) in 2017 — all in different ways.
Some exited with a bang – literally! Others departed with a whimper. But whether loved, loathed, or somewhere in between, each and every character left their mark on Salem. Soap Hub polled fans on which exit you felt was the saddest of the year. An overwhelming 12,000 of you spoke out and cast your vote.
Nicole
Tops on the sad departure list was Nicole (Arianne Zucker), who garnered 70% of your votes. As a prominent part of the soap for decades, Nicole was someone you truly cared about and rooted for. Watching Brady blackmail her to leave her home and Eric was more than you could bear. It still brings tears to your eyes just thinking about it.
Theresa
Some 18% of fans thought Theresa’s (Jen Lilley) exit was the saddest one of all. She’d finally turned her life around and found real happiness with Brady and Tate, when Mateo tracked her down and demanded she return to Mexico with him.
Desperate to keep the drug lord from hurting her family, she convinced Brady she’d never loved him, breaking not only his heart but fans, too.
Joey
Watching Joey (James Lastovic) head off to prison for killing Ava garnered 10% of your votes. You found it incredibly difficult watching Kayla and Steve say goodbye to their only son, knowing how excruciatingly painful it was for both of them.
You also felt for the kindly, soft-spoken Joey, who had always been a good kid before Ava unmercifully manipulated him.
Deimos
Surprisingly, 1% of fans thought Deimos’s (Vincent Irizarry) departure was actually sad. Despite all his evil deeds, you didn’t think he deserved to be murdered and believed he could have eventually been redeemed. Plus, you feel his exit has left a huge void in the Kiriakis family.
Other
The final 1% of you split your votes among a few characters. Some found Sami’s (Alison Sweeney) departure very poignant; particularly her goodbye scene with Will (Chandler Massey). Some were touched by Susan’s (Eileen Davidson) exit, as you finally grasped the depths of the pain she’d suffered since EJ’s death.
Days of our Lives (DOOL) airs weekdays on NBC. Check your local listings for air times.
