Stephanie (Abigail Klein) told Alex (Robert Scott Wilson) that he and Kelsey (Lena and Mira Chase) should stay at their apartment. Alex pushed back, but Stephanie insisted she wasn’t leaving him, just moving in with Jada (Elia Cantu) until Kelsey could be back with Joy (AlexAnn Hopkins). Paulina (Jackée Harry) spent time with Chanel (Raven Bowens) and Trey (Joseph Ihlenf and Jordan Perdue). Chanel and Paulina talked about the baby coming soon. Paulina mentioned it was Abe’s (James Reynolds) birthday. Later, Alex and Chanel bonded over their children in Horton Town Square. Chanel warned Alex to be careful of Joy and not let her ruin his marriage to Stephanie. Lani (Sal Stowers) asked Jada for help finding Lexie (Nikki Crawford). John Oliver debuted as water inspector Devlin St. John, who first popped up to grill Paulina about the water well on Smith Island. When Paulina didn’t have answers for him, he headed to see Julie (Susan Seaforth Hayes). Devlin informed Julie that he couldn’t determine what was “lurking” in the well because she had decontaminated it without permission. Julie answered his questions, and he signed off that the well water was clean based on her word. Then Devlin showed up at the DiMera mansion. Rita (Maggie Carney) tried to stall him from speaking with a sick EJ, but he balked. Devlin dropped the bomb to EJ that, thanks to George (Michael Rose), the head of DiMera Pharmaceuticals, he knew everything that happened in the Coriseal case. Rafe (Galen Gering) arrived in Alamainia, but he wasn’t there to rescue Leo (Greg Rikaart) and Gwen (Emily O’Brien). Instead, he wanted Dimitri’s statement to take down EJ, and it had to be done in Salem. Gwen and Leo were shocked to learn Rafe had her letter. Dimitri wanted Gwen to stay in Alamainia until she was charged, but Rafe shut him down. Leo offered to stay in Alamainia to get Dimitri to agree to Rafe’s terms. Theo got confirmation Lexie wasn’t in Africa and eventually told Abe. Cat told Marlena that Lexie was in the DiMera tunnels. They realized neither of them could tell Theo directly. Ari (Vico Escorcia) and Holly (Ashley Puzemis) did some back-to-school shopping, while Tate (Leo Howard) and Aaron (Louis Tomeo) hit the gym. Later, Ari and Aaron surprised Holly and Tate with a BBQ hangout in the park. When Tate and Holly played Frisbee, Aaron kissed Ari. Sarah (Linsey Godfrey) caught Xander (Paul Telfer) talking to a relator. Xander broke the Titan news to her and revealed Maggie (Suzanne Rogers) had asked him to sell the Kiriakis estate, so EJ wouldn’t get it. They grew closer as Xander confessed his guilt over the situation. Xander asked Sarah to tell Brady (Eric Martsolf) about Titan. Stephanie brought flowers for Joy to the hospital and asked Kayla to give them to her, declaring they were from Kelsey. Kayla learned Stephanie feared that if she didn’t change, she would lose Alex. Steve (Stephen Nichols) ran into Alex, who asked him to help plan a wedding reception for Stephanie. Alex promised Steve he wouldn’t let Joy come between him and Stephanie. Marlena encouraged Paulina to embrace her concern for Abe and be there for him, which raised red flags for Paulina. Abe and Theo realized Lexie’s sick again. Theo filled Marlena in on what he knew so far about his mom. Marlena suggested Lexie was in the tunnels at the DiMera mansion and revealed Lexie was dying, but didn’t want him to know. Theo raced off to find Lexie. In Alamainia, a free Gwen begged Rafe not to leave Leo behind with Dimitri. Rafe declared she should be more worried about herself than her best friend. Gwen ultimately agreed to leave with Rafe after he offered her immunity in exchange for testifying against EJ. Dimitri told Leo he knew Leo had never gotten over him and offered to make Leo’s dream of going to Rome come true. Leo shut him down and insisted they each deserved a better love. Dimitri understood but vowed not to give up, declaring they would take things day by day. Leo reassured Dimitri that he would keep his promise to stay, but also wished for ruby-red slippers so he could click his heels and go back to Salem.

Chad questioned Rita about EJ and Kristen. While they were talking, Theo arrived and demanded to search the tunnels, ranting about EJ keeping a dying Lexie locked up. Rita defended EJ and tried to stop Theo, but he didn’t listen. Theo and Chad found Lexie. Paulina arrived to babysit Trey, while Johnny and Chanel went to dinner with Abe, Lani, and Theo. Chanel agreed to give Abe Paulina’s gift and make it clear that she had gotten it before Lexie came back. Lani had to convince Abe to go to dinner becasue he was worried about Lexie. At the Bistro, Chanel gave Abe Paulina’s gift: a picture of all the grandkids’ handprints. Chad showed up to tell Abe they found Lexie. Rita gave a passed-out Devlin a dose of a drug that would erase his memory of the last 24 hours. It didn’t take. Devlin woke up and literally had a fist fight with EJ before making his way downstairs at the mansion. Rita tased him and took him to the tunnels. EJ found them and was furious, so Rita gave him a dose of the memory-erasing drug before she set him back upstairs to bed. Alone with Devlin, Rita admitted she had a crush on him, so she couldn’t kill him. Instead, she put him in a pod and sent him off to paradise in hopes they would meet again. Chad blasted Cat for keeping everything that happened with Lexie a secret. Cat tried to defend herself. She was devastated when Chad compared her to EJ and admitted he now saw the real Cat. Chanel went into labor. Theo left Lexie alone to bring Abe to her. When they returned, Lexie was unconscious.
