In the interim, Reeves is thrilled with the turn of events. “I have been hoping that Matt could come back for years,” confides Reeves.
“It just never came up and then, all of a sudden, I heard he was coming back. I texted him and said, ‘Is this rumor true? Is this really happening?’ He was like, ‘We’re still talking, but yes.’ I was so excited. We both couldn’t wait.’”
Plot Twist
Not that Reeves wasn’t without reservations. She started wondering “how are they going to do this… how are they going to explain everything, because Jack was dead,” she notes.
“Then I got a little note from someone that said, ‘Wait until you read the New Year’s Eve script. You’re going to love it. You’re going to freak out. It’s amazing,’” she continues.
“I finally got it, and it was amazing. I started reading how the story was unfolding and thought, Oh! They did it. I can believe that.”
For the Fans
Reeves believes fans are going to love it, too. “I think they’ll love it because it’s Matt,” she contends. “I think they’ll be like, yes, we’ll buy this story, because they want to see him again onscreen.”
Regarding what fans can expect in the weeks ahead, look for Jennifer to do whatever she can to get through to her husband. “You will see Jennifer still pursuing Jack. It’s our thing,” says Reeves, reflecting back on the couple’s past.
And expect the whole Deveraux clan to get into the act, too. Namely, Jack and Jennifer’s kids, Abigail (Kate Mansi) and JJ (Casey Moss), who desperately want their father back. Meanwhile, Eve will fight tooth and nail to keep Jack’s memories from resurfacing.
“It’s great because we have everyone [involved],” notes Reeves. “That’s where the conflict starts to come in with the kids and Jennifer and with Jack and Eve. It starts branching off into a lot of conflicts, and I’m excited.”
