Soap vets Martha Madison and Lilly Melgar are more than just pals and the former hosts of Soap Box with Lilly & Martha on TRadioV.com but the Days of our Lives star once saved the life of the ex-General Hospital actress.

Martha Madison Firey Memory

On the occasion of Melgar’s birthday, Madison recalled the off-screen event in which DAYS’ Belle came to the rescue of GH’s Lily. “On this day three years ago, just seconds after this picture was taken, I saved @lillymelgarofficial life,” Madison simply states. “It was a joint birthday celebration at @cecconisrestaurants (as our birthdays are only three days apart), and we chose to commemorate it with champagne, birthday cake and the obligatory selfie.

“Now, just to the left of Lilly sat a lovely slice of cake with a single candle slowly melting from the flame, but we paused to take this photo before making our birthday wishes,” Madison continues. “Suddenly, I was overwhelmed with a familiar but pungent smell. As I looked around the dining room searching for the cause, I realized Lilly’s perfectly coiffed hair was ablaze.

“I noticed it just a millisecond before she did, which allowed me to see the full and glorious array of expressions that would soon dance across her perfectly painted face,” Madison adds. “It was a moment I’ll never forget because 1) only a true friend can laugh her ass off when her BFFs hair is on fire, and 2) because I also had the privilege of dousing the flames and saving her life.

“My dear Lilly, the yin to my yang, teacher of beauty and love, ride or die friend for life, you made it another year (you’re welcome 😂),” Madison notes. “I know this year wasn’t easy, but you did it with strength and grace. I will love you forever and ever. Happy Birthday! ❤️”
