In Soapville, USA – and at DAYS in particular – recast characters are chockablock. But actress Stacy Haiduk – the recipient of Soap Hub’s Performer of the Week Award – has had a most unenviable task: take over not one, but two roles from a fellow thespian who’s left an indelible mark.
Stacy Haiduk – Performer of the Week
As Kristen DiMera, Haiduk is a commanding presence. One minute she’s a seething cauldron of rage, and the next an emotional wreck capable of wrenching sympathy from even the most hard-hearted soul. And as Susan Banks, Haiduk is an unabashed hoot!
It was in the guise of that latter alter ego that Haiduk got to do some of her finest work. First, she tapped into Susan’s psychic powers to deliver a warning to Ben Weston (Robert Scott Wilson) and Ciara Brady Weston (Victoria Konefal). Then, she took the first available opportunity to get acquainted with Wilson’s ripped torso.
After that, it was time to dance with the Devil, and to put to good use all those acting exercises where one is told to pretend to be an animal – which in this particular case was an adorable pussy cat.
Finally, the pièce de résistance: possessed Susan. Who knew that we needed to hear Satan speaking with Miss Banks unmistakable southern drawl? If there was ever a showcase for the ultra-talented Stacy Haiduk, it was this.
Honorable Mention: Jay Kenneth Johnson
Philip Kiriakis must truly be the Universe’s favorite plaything. Luckily for DAYS, they’ve found in actor Jay Kenneth Johnson a performer capable of shouldering everything thrown at him – and one willing to go the extra mile…even if it requires going toe-to-toe with an innocent sapling.
