Soap Hub Performer of the Week for Days of our Lives: Deidre Hall

DAYS superstar and soap opera icon Deidre Hall has been delivering Performer of the Week worthy efforts since day one, but recent scenes featuring the actress doing her last dance with the Devil should not go by unheralded.

Hall has been here before. Heck, the rope tethering her to that bed’s headboard may very well be the same used during Marlena Evans Black’s last exorcism two decades previous. And now, as then, Hall’s all in.

Need her to snarl? Need her to co-opt an infamous line of dialogue from the preeminent possession picture and really sell it? Need her to convince you that water splashed on alter-ego’s arm burns like acid? Done, done, and done.

Hall no doubt had a blast hurling bon mots like, “Oh, my, it’s the professional slut defending the junior slut,” at Marlena’s adultery minded daughters, and the wild ride she took on that bucking bed was surely a thrill.

But as much as we (and Hall) may have delighted in foul mouthed, Devil may care (HA!) Marlena, the return of the genuine article, with her patented mewing and contagious smile, post exorcism was a most welcome sight…and that cavalcade of classic Marlena clips – her and John Black (Drake Hogestyn) reuniting on the pier (sniffle), their most recent nuptials (sniffle, sniffle), those mama bear hugs she’d pull her kids into (triple sniffle) – a much appreciated bonus.

DAYS did good, very good by one of its main draws. Deidre Hall, in turn, churned out and excellent, seemingly facile performance.
