When in doubt, call on Bryan Dattilo. The recipient of Soap Hub’s Performer of the Week Award can make you laugh, and he can make you cry, and he can do it all in equal measure.
Bryan Dattilo — Performer of the Week
For the past few weeks, Dattilo has found himself at the center of a superior farcical story. His character has told an ex-wife a whopper of lie concerning his health, in hopes that the news will draw her closer to him. And his hunch had paid off in dividends…but there’s a fly in the ointment.
Said ex wants him to see a specialist – one that she’s hoping will have far better news to impart. Lucas knows that his scheme will be rumbled if he submits to a consultation…but what can he do to avoid the inevitable? Why call upon yet another ex-wife of course!
On a normal day, Sami Brady (Alison Sweeney) is chockablock with machinations and carefully crafted stratagems. But when Lucas reached out for help, it was a day when she had her blackmailer, Kristen DiMera (Stacy Haiduk), breathing down her neck – so she wasn’t exactly in a position to help.
And that did not sit well with an exacerbated Lucas. “What happens when they run those cancer tests all over again?! All the cancer tests they didn’t run the first time because nothing is wrong with me?!”
After quickly realizing that he and Sami were at an impasse, Lucas warned that shehad better come up with something, and fast. He. Is. OVER IT ALL!
Cut to the next morning, and Lucas is at the hospital gowned up and ready to be outed as the liar that he is. But then in walks his doctor, and Lucas quickly realizes that the man before him is actually Sami in ultra convincing drag! For the briefest of seconds, Lucas breathes easily. But it’s the calm before the maelstrom.
In the end, the whole ridiculous exercise proved futile – but it also demonstrated, and not for the first time, that Dattilo is always at his best when Lucas is at his worst. Days of our Lives (DOOL) airs weekdays on NBC. Check your local listings for airtimes.
