Soap Hub Performer of the Week for DAYS: Mary Beth Evans
 Comments

Once upon a time, Mary Beth Evans – the recipient of Soap Hub’s Performer of the Week honors – played one of the Days of our Lives most lively heroines. As the years pressed on, however, headstrong, spunky, go-getting Dr. Kayla Brady Johnson was made over into a stuffy, above reproach superwoman….but as luck would have it, the character of old still burns brightly within!

Mary Beth Evans – Performer of the Week

These days, Kayla spends the majority of her time fussing over, and worrying about other people’s problems. The names at the top of her (current) list are Doug Williams (Bill Hayes) and Julie Olson Williams (Susan Seaforth Hayes).

It’s Kayla’s opinion that the ailing former would benefit greatly from seeing the latter – and vice versa. But her efforts to unite the two are continuously stymied by fellow University Hospital staffer Marlena Evans Black (Deidre Hall).

A worn-down Kayla thought she get a moment’s respite from drama while out with hubby Steve Johnson (Stephen Nichols), but there was more to come – and so was an opportunity for Mary Beth Evans to flex her, long-dormant, comedy muscle.

Over a meal at Julie’s Place, Steve confessed to accepting a mission from Victor Kiriakis (Jon Aniston). And that mission, Kayla learned to her great chagrin, is to track down Kristen DiMera (Stacy Haiduk).

Despite being against the idea, on several principles, Kayla couldn’t help but throw in with Steve when the opportunity to clone EJ DiMera’s (Dan Feuerriegel ) cellphone – he is in contact with his sister, after all – and get Kristen hater Nicole Walker Brady (Arianne Zucker) alone to boot, presented itself.

With a wine glass in hand, Kayla stumbled over to the couple’s table and proceeded to put on one hell of a show…a show which culminated in said wine glass being emptied onto EJ.

“Oooooooh, that’s probably a silk tie,” Kayla oh so helpfully observed before adding that, “triage,” was in order should the “patient” be saved.

Kayla and Steve were ultimately successful in their endeavor, and Mary Beth Evans succeeded in reminding viewers that she (and Kayla) could sleuth, and cut loose, with the best of them.
