Soap Hub Performer of the Week for DAYS: Carson Boatman

Carson Boatman has been doing stellar work since joining the DAYS cast, but the latest recipient of Soap Hub’s Performer of the Week honors, really stepped up his game when the Devil came a knocking on his alter ego’s soul.

John Milton’s Paradise Lost tells us that it’s better to rule over Hell than serve in Heaven, and Boatman’s Johnny DiMera must certainly agree – seeing as how he willingly let his soul be corrupted.

But for a time, Johnny did buck against the Devil’s influence. And in those moments, Boatman portrayed Johnny as weakened and befuddled and steely determined not to let whatever was ailing him get him down. But all the while, the actor’s soulful eyes belied an internal struggle.

When the Prince of Darkness did manage to take bodily control, Boatman adopted a swagger and toothy-grin unbecoming of Johnny, but pitch-perfect for the amalgamation fans have dubbed JoDevil.

As the days wore on, and his character’s defenses lowered, Boatman was given the opportunity to present a plethora of Johnny’s. There was sickly Johnny, amorous Johnny, petrified Johnny, and, finally, possessed Johnny.

Lucifer had promised Johnny that they’d have such fun together, and Boatman sure seemed to have a blast tearing into the DiMera manse’s drawing-room while gregariously growling, HEEEEEEERE’S JOHNNY!

The actor capped his tour deforce with a lengthy speech that saw “Johnny” pay tribute to his, “formidable,” grandfather (played the late, great Joe Mascolo)…and dump his newly acquired bride!

Satan may be done with Chanel Dupree DiMera (Raven Bowens), but here’s hoping that DAYS is far from done with the uber-talented Carson Boatman. Long may he, and JoDevil reign.
