Earlier this fall, Days of our Lives fans just got a glimpse of Tony DiMera when his brother, Chad, flashed back to how they decided to “kill” their father… by destroying the microchip that contained his “essence.” It was fun to see Tony (Thaao Penghlis) again… and sad that he wasn’t on more.
But then he showed up again in time for Christmas with Anna in tow. Should they stick around? Almost 3,000 viewers gave us their opinion on whether Tony should return to Salem for good…
It’s not a majority, but 39% of the audience wants Tony and the love of his life Anna (Leann Hunley) to stay in Salem. This couple is at their best when they’re together. (Though Anna carting around and chatting with Tony’s ashes was pretty amusing, too.) You don’t want to see one without the other, so if there’s going to be a grand return, it’s going to be as a team.
A slightly smaller 34% is open to Tony with or without Anna. He is desperately needed. No matter how many chats he has with Stefano’s (Joseph Mascolo) portrait, Chad (Billy Flynn) still seems like a lightweight when it comes to running the DiMera empire. Sure, Anna doesn’t want Tony diving back into that cut-throat grind, but it’s a matter of family honor. A DiMera is a certain type of man. Chad isn’t it. Jake (Brandon Barash) isn’t it. But Tony certainly is!
Then again, 27% are perfectly happy with Tony and Anna making periodic visits, but no more. He and Anna are happy together in Europe. Coming back would mean they need to be unhappy. No other kind of couple is allowed in Salem.
Plus, Tony’s time has passed. Chad, Jake, even Gabi (Camila Banus) are the future of the DiMera empire. Tony can retire. They’ve got this. We’ll see you and Anna for Christmas in 2021! Days of our Lives (DOOL) airs weekdays on NBC. Check your local listings for airtimes.
