Days of Our Lives (DOOL) is wasting its hottest 20-something star. Casey Moss is young, handsome, and he can act — a trifecta in soap land. Yet, for some reason, the 23-year-old, who plays JJ Deveraux, has been languishing in the background on the soap.
Most of his scenes are working at the Salem PD (yawn) or romancing Sal Stowers’ Lani, a relationship that’s become a snooze since all complications were removed between the twosome.
Moss shined during his early years on DAYS, playing a belligerent drug-dealing bad boy. He needs to be driving storyline again. Most importantly, his character needs his edge back. Here are a few suggestions on how to utilize Moss better.
Bye-Bye Cop Shop
The minute JJ joined the Salem PD was the minute things shifted for Moss. Suddenly, his deliciously mischievous character was transformed into milquetoast and pushed to the sidelines.
That’s why he needs to leave the force, and the sooner the better. Perhaps a new case could make JJ question the rigidity of the police system and resign, as he realizes he’s a man who needs to break the rules.
A New Leading Lady
JJ’s already had an affair with an older woman. Who can forget his tryst with Paige’s mother and Jennifer’s (Melissa Reeves) arch rival, Eve (Kassie DePaiva).
What if he hooked up with another older woman, like say Chloe (Nadia Bjorlin)? A one-night-stand could develop into another clandestine relationship. However, as the pair get to know one another, it eventually turns into a surprise love story.
Four’s Company
The only way to salvage JJ and Lani is to bring Gabi (Camila Banus) and Eli (Lamon Archey) back into the mix. JJ and Gabi’s love story ended too abruptly and was never really resolved. Plus, Moss and Banus shared a sweet, yet sexy chemistry.
Gabi could lean on JJ, during the “is Will really alive” twist, which would leave Eli and Lani reeling and turning to each other for solace. In the process, a complex quadrangle could emerge.
Where’s Rory?
Resurrect JJ’s old buddy Rory (Kevin Riggin). Their friendship was big during Moss’s first two years on the soap. Then, it was inexplicably dropped. While Rory was a bad influence on JJ, he always kept things light and interesting.
Maybe Rory could resurface with a huge problem, and his former BFF could help him solve it while it takes them both down a dark and dangerous road.
