Jordan’s dead, Ben’s in prison for her murder, and Ciara’s doing the best to get him out. It’s got Days of our Lives fans asking, ‘What’s next for Cin?’ – now that the soap’s one-year time jump has officially started.

Robert Scott Wilson and Victoria Konefal addressed that question and more, regarding the stunning story arc that’s divided their supercouple characters.

Ben Crashes

“Ben probably takes one of the most blunt forces of the entire time jump,” assesses Wilson. “His whole world is turned upside down. He’s had these recurring nightmares that have been haunting him for quite some time, and he wakes up from one of them and it’s pretty much a reality. His whole world is altered. He’s lost a loved one. He’s questioning himself. His life could be over. His love [affair with Ciara] could be over.”

Ciara Surges

What’s happening to Ciara during Ben’s time in the slammer? According to Konefal, the time jump has also affected her character “incredibly. Ciara is now an executive at Titan, which gives her a sense of independence that she never really had before,” says the actress.

“She’s powerful now. She’s an independent woman with an incredible job. I think that’s inspiring. She’s finally being her own [person] instead of just the counterpart of Ben.”

Days of our Lives: Role Reversals

A strong, independent Ciara is exactly who Ben will need in his corner if he has any hope of clearing his name and getting out of prison.

“The roles are reversed,” notes Wilson. “Ben’s always been the one to try to save her. Now he needs her. Now she’s not only his anchor but also his saving grace. And maybe she could turn her back on him. Maybe she could not fight for their love. There’s that [possibility], too. While this is all going on, Ben has to have that in the back of his head.”

Konefal loves the idea of the tables turning and Ciara being tasked with trying to save her man. “I’m really happy about that,” she admits. “It’s great. Up until now, Ciara’s always been the damsel in distress. It’s about time she grows her wings and figures it out. It’s very consistent with Ciara being a woman instead of a girl, now. I love that.”

A Love Tested

While Ciara may or may not abandon Ben in the long run, the horrible situation the pair finds themselves in will put their relationship to the test and strengthen it at points during the months ahead.

“It brings them closer,” reveals Konefal. “It’s the struggle that makes them fight for each other, that makes their entire dynamic work. They love each other so much. The love isn’t going away. There are just obstacles constantly being put in the way that they are forced to jump over together.”

Wilson concurs that Ben and Ciara “are going to [face] an ultimate hurdle …. the most vicious hurdle,” he says.

“When this part of the story ends, it’s some of Victoria’s best work and some of Deidre Hall’s greatest work with me. There will be a lot of Ben and Marlena scenes. She’s been Ben’s closest thing to a mother in a way. This just brings that whole thing full circle.”

Enjoy the Ride

Wilson urges Days of our Lives viewers to stick along for the long, bumpy ride. “Just when Ben thought he was finally redeemed, his whole world got [blown apart],” sums up Wilson. “Now he’s got to do it again at a different level and fight that much harder.”

As for what it all means for Cin, Wilson promises “it’s a beautiful journey… a beautiful love story.” And, if the pair do find their way back to each other, he says, “it will ultimately make the triumph of their love that much better and sweeter.” Days of our Lives (DOOL) airs weekdays on NBC.
