On the May 20 episode of Days of our Lives, Sarah came upon Amy as she haunted the pier where her daughter, Sophia, allegedly committed suicide. And the conversation they had showcased soap operas at their very best.
Key Takeaways:
- Amy mourned Sophia
- Sarah confessed to losing her own daughter
- Sarah offered Amy key advice
Two of a Kind
Amy (Shi Ne Nielson) mourned the daughter she believes took her own life. (While we know that Sophia [Rachel Boyd] was actually planning to go on the run after trying to kill Johnny [Carson Boatman], but was actually knocked on the back of the head by Kristen [Stacy Haiduk] and tossed into the water. Which, in soapland, means she is so not dead.) Sarah (Linsey Godfrey) showed up with flowers and expressed her sympathies.
Lived Experience
Sarah also told Amy about losing her own daughter. Which she kind of did twice. First, when baby Mickey died at birth, and second, when she had to turn over the baby she’d been raising as Mickey, Rachel (Lorelei Olivia Mote), to her real parents, Kristen and Brady (Eric Martsolf). Sarah confessed that she also looked for someone to blame. And the person she eventually settled on was herself. Sarah urged Amy not to go down that same dark path.
Learn From Your Mistakes

We love it when a show uses history to add depth and color to present-day storylines. Having Sarah talk about her own loss and connecting it to Amy’s guilt over not realizing that Sophia was struggling worked perfectly. As did Amy’s anger at Sarah’s niece, juxtaposed with Holly (Ashley Puzemis) telling Ari (Vico Escorcia) she doesn’t feel bad about Sophia’s death and doesn’t believe she played a role at all. This is how you tell a multi-layered soap story!
