She was furious with everybody, especially Johnny (Carson Boatman), whose backing out of his promise to adopt Sophia’s son led to her entire life falling apart. And Sophia decided to make everybody pay. Unfortunately, no matter what she did, the people who were so awful to Sophia kept on living charmed lives, while she ended up in a mental institution. No more Miss Nice Guy!

Which is why Sophia tying Johnny to a chair and explaining that she was going to blow him to smithereens not only made a valid case for why Boyd should be in Emmy consideration next year, but also for why Sophia had a point. Johnny acted like a spoiled child, without any thought for whom he was hurting, and yet now he has everything he ever wanted, including a loving wife, Chanel (Raven Bowens), and Sophia’s son. We understood why Sophia may want to make Johnny go boom. And Boyd’s performance was a big part of selling it.
