Crazed killer Ben Weston is returning to Days of Our Lives, now that actor Robert Scott Wilson has inked a new contract with the soap… which means it’s time for a magical rewrite or convoluted explanation.
Ben murdered Paige (True O’Brien), Serena (Melissa Archer) and Will (Chandler Massey), but then Will was miraculously brought back to life. And, in between strangling people, Ben terrorized poor Abigail (Marci Miller) and kidnapped her young son, Thomas.
So, how can the character suddenly be redeemed and integrated into Salem society? Here’s a look at three ways the show could bring back Ben.
DID What?
What if Abigail isn’t the only one with Dissociative Identity Disorder (DID)? What if Ben suffers from multiple personalities, too? The psychological problem could date back to his traumatic childhood as the son of the evil Clyde.
It was hinted that Clyde abused Ben’s sister Jordan (Chrishell Stause), so it’s possible he abused Ben too.
Ben could have adopted another personality to cope with the torment, a personality who lashed out and hurt people, just like his own father hurt him.
Brain Drain
DAYS could decide to go the tried and true brain tumor route, just like General Hospital did with Franco (Roger Howarth).
Remember, Franco was a coldblooded killer, who offed numerous people. However, he was totally exonerated and got a new lease on life when a medical examination revealed that all his evil activity had been the result of a brain tumor. Hence, he wasn’t responsible for any of his actions.
Ben’s abominable behavior could be explained the same way. It was all caused by a brain tumor. Once he has surgery and it’s removed, he could emerge a totally new and less threatening man.
Chip Ahoy
Of course, Days could opt to go the route they’ve gone before whenever a Salem citizen began acting fiendishly. It was Stefano’s doing, when he had a chip implanted in the victim – a chip that controlled the person’s mind and led to all sorts of nefarious actions.
Stefano could have had the chip placed in Ben to make him his new pawn. He needed a younger and sprier version of John Black (Drake Hogestyn), and he saw Ben as the perfect replacement. The chip could be discovered and deactivated, which would allow Ben to resume his life as a normal guy.
