On today’s Days of our Lives, it was like Old Home Week, what with Hope Brady, Steve, and John finding themselves following up on the same clue.
In addition, Paul (Christopher Sean) and Andrew (Colton Little) picked up where they left off, Kate (Lauren Koslow) got all kinds of bamboozled, Marlena (Deidre Hall) and Kayla (Mary Beth Evans) argued with a madman, and Belle (Martha Madison) and Shawn (Brandon Beemer) leaned on each other like never before. Now, let’s dig a little deeper into what exactly happened.
Though they didn’t stumble upon Megan Hathaway’s (Miranda Wilson) current address, Steve (Stephen Nichols) and John (Drake Hogestyn) did run smack dab into an old chum: Hope (Kristian Alfonso)!

After ascertaining that they were all there for the same reason — tracking down Big Bad Megan — and confiding exactly how they came to be in the same location — she’s got friends in high places at the ISA; Steve guilt-tripped Andrew — John and Steve filled Hope in on some particulars, namely that Megan was the one who stole the orchid that could have saved Marlena, Kayla, and Kate’s lives. Their deaths were news to Hope, and she was all kinds of sorry to hear it.
“It all started with [Megan’s] obsession with Bo,” Hope lamented/expounded, adding, “Most people get over their high school sweethearts. Not her. Megan never did…she thought that Bo had broken up with her. And he thought that she had done the same to him. But in fact, neither was true…Megan’s mother. She caused the breakup. She manipulated both of them, and when Megan found out she lost it…something broke inside of her. That’s when she became obsessed with Bo. And desperate. Desperate to get him back.”
Now, where do they go from here? How do they find Megan and bring her down once and for all? Hope thinks that she has an ace up her sleeve in the form of Harris Michaels (Steve Burton), a former Salemite — and former lover — whom Megan brainwashed to do her bidding. With nothing left to lose, Hope phones Andrew and asks him to facilitate a face-to-face meeting.
Unbeknownst to the band of heroes, Hope’s call could not have come at a more inopportune moment. Not only was Andrew stark naked and wrapped up in Paul’s arms, but the two had just agreed to take a chance that a long-distance relationship would work out.
Opposite all the above, Kate took in the fact that Bo Brady (Peter Reckell) was alive and well and standing before her. That she could wrap her head around pretty quickly. What’s yet another presumed dead Salemite coming back to life? Heck, she’s a presumed dead Salemite come back to life. It happens.
What Kate couldn’t fathom was Bo’s insistence that, if she really wanted to make her getaway, she’d have to go back through the door from whence she emerged. That’s going to be a problem, Kate revealed, seeing as how she just KO’d Megan and left her. But Bo persisted. So, Kate backtracked and quickly came to realize that all was not as it seemed.
Not only did Bo head for Megan’s side and gently bring her ’round, but he pulled a gun on Kate and refused to let her leave. Megan chuckled at Kate’s predicament. Kate did not.
Deciding that enough was enough and that it was time to proceed with the testing, Megan set about looking for the vial of serum that Rolf brewed. Getting her hands on it first, Kate threw it to the ground and stomped on it for good measure.
“That was stupid,” observed Megan. “The only reason that I was keeping you alive was to make sure that that serum worked. Now that it’s gone, you’re of no further use to me.” With that, Megan turned to Bo and issued a kill order!
Meanwhile, Marlena and Kayla’s bid for freedom was stymied by *drum roll please* Dr. Wilhelm Rolf (Richard Wharton) whom, to be quite frank, neither woman was particularly surprised to see. After all, who better to fetch and carry for and to resurrect a DiMera than he?
Now painfully aware that neither would be getting out of their predicament any time soon, Marlena and Kayla turned their attention to getting answers, namely, what exactly has happened to Kate and just who was the occupant of that nearby tube.
Though Rolf hedged when it came to the latter query, he rather happily shared that Kate was presently being used as a conscripted test subject.
Back on the subject of his formerly frozen subject, Rolf granted that he’d managed to keep them in a cryogenic state for nearly a decade but kept it at that.
Marlena and Kayla then mock-debated who the person could be — A rock star? No, a Hollywood legend! Nah, must be some sports star — before revealing that they’ve rumbled it’s “somebody we all knew, somebody close to Salem.” Rolf refused to either confirm or deny.
Back in Salem, Anywhere USA, Belle found her husband in dire straits. His calls to Hope are going unanswered, and she’d been silent for quite some time now. Still, he’s hoping (HA!) that all’s well. In fact, it’s really the only thing that he can do, given that Hope is hot on Megan Hathaway’s trail.
Belle blanches at the very mention of Megan’s name and bemoans the untimely loss of her beloved mother due to the villainess’s machinations. That, in turn, provokes Shawn’s memories of his late — well, not actually so — father, and he rues all the milestones that Bo has missed out on.
Like having another chance to reunite with Hope. Watching Claire grow up. Seeing Ciara (Victoria Konefal) and Ben (Robert Scott Wilson) rear his namesake. The birthdays, the anniversaries, and all the days to come.
But there is one thing that brings him solace, Shawn admitted, and that was the fact that Bo’s death “made sense” — as he was ailing from a brain tumor — unlike Marlena’s untimely demise.
Luckily for Belle, Shawn had some hard wisdom to impart: “You’re never gonna stop missing [those you’ve lost] — but time…time definitely helps.” And so will Shawn. He’ll be there for her to lean on whenever she needs him. Belle expressed the same sentiment, and the two decided to head home and “lean on each other on the couch.”
