In the Days of our Lives recap for August 24, 2023, Nicole unfortunately walked into the hospital and overheard a private and very sad conversation between Eric and his dad.
In addition, Melinda overheard something Tripp shouldn’t have been talking about, Ava saw someone who wasn’t there, Roman had to be talked into doing a decent thing for the woman who he thought was still carrying his newest grandchild, and EJ was plagued by the horrific nightmare that was his mother’s untimely passing. Now, let’s dig a little deeper into what happened.
Sloan (Jessica Serfaty) thought she had dreamt that she lost her child, but Eric (temporary recast Jason Gerhardt) had to let her know it actually happened. As the two mourned again, Kayla (Mary Beth Evans) interrupted with more news for Sloan. The patient had no problem with Eric hearing what the tests showed — which was that Sloan suffers from an unnamed auto-immune disease, which could have caused what happened.

Did that mean that Sloan couldn’t have children? No, there was a medication she could take to regulate her condition, but there was no known cure and to get pregnant may be risky. As Eric tried to find out why Sloan felt her actions were to blame for her miscarriage, Roman’s (Josh Taylor) attempt to call interrupted them. He had spoken to Marlena (Deidre Hall), who felt they should throw a shower for Sloan and Eric at the pub. At first, against it, because he doesn’t like Sloan, Roman wanted to reach out. Eric left to call him, and as he shared the sad news, Nicole (Arianne Zucker) arrived, unseen by Eric, and was shocked to hear Sloan lost the baby.
Earlier, EJ (Dan Feuerriegel) awoke from a nightmare in which he relived the last moments of his mother’s life. Nicole, who was already up and dressed, returned to find him in a state. Despite that, she helped him get ready to face the day. But he wasn’t the only one suffering nightmares of his mother.
At Bayview, Ava (Tamara Braun) swore she saw Susan (Stacy Haiduk), but it was just another patient, Midge. Harris (Steve Burton) had seen pictures of Susan and knew Midge wasn’t her, so he tried to help talk Ava back to reality, and eventually, he succeeded. The reality of the situation flattened Ava’s hope that she was finally turning a corner and could one day be better. Harris knew just the person to help — Dr. Marlena Evans. Scratch that, warned Ava. She’s put the good doctor through a lot over the years and then proceeded to explain many of her misdeeds.
Harris didn’t think a professional like Marlena would let that influence her — she treated the necktie killer who murdered her own grandson, after all. If that’s not professional detachment, what is? Sure, Ava saw that as a good point and said he could call Marlena, so of course, Marlena quickly dropped everything and ran to see Harris. She was surprised to see Ava, so Harris took Marlena somewhere private to discuss.
Melinda (Tina Huang) woke up after her sex-filled evening — and morning, too — with Li (Remington Hoffman) with her agenda still in place — get the goods on him. But he wasn’t sleeping as soundly as she thought and wanted to know what she was doing with his phone. She played it off that she thought it was hers.
Tripp (Lucas Adams) got a call from Kayla about their patient, Sloan, and said aloud that she lost the baby, which Melinda overheard (HIPPA nightmare anyone?). She ran out the door straight for Sloan over the call of Tripp, telling her she wasn’t supposed to hear that. Melinda shocked Sloan that she knew her business, and Melinda wasted no time throwing Tripp under the bus for revealing it. She advised her BFF not to tell Eric the truth about Nicole’s baby despite Sloan wanting to spill all.
Back at the apartment, Tripp let Li know Melinda left and was cagey about whether or not their fantastic night was a true new beginning since, of course, he doesn’t trust her, not that he would tell Tripp that. Tripp went on a run and ran into EJ. Fresh off his nightmare for which he blames Tripp’s mom, the two had words, with Tripp confident his mother would one day be free and EJ would just have to deal with it. After Tripp ran off, EJ said, “We’ll see about that.”
