In the Days of our Lives recap for October 18, 2023, Abe expressed a desire to divorce the woman he loves. Makes sense-ish.
Days of our Lives Recap Highlights
In addition, Gabi and Stefan schemed to one-up EJ, while Dimitri and Leo schemed to one-up the SPD. Now, let’s dig a little deeper into what happened.
Days of our Lives Recap: Remember To Never Forget
His amnesia granted, John (Drake Hogestyn) didn’t hold it against Abe (James Reynolds) that he came looking for Belle (Martha Madison) even though she doesn’t reside at the family abode. However, he did take great exception upon learning the reason his daughter was in such demand: Abe wanted help filing for divorce.
It’s not so much that Abe wanted to divorce Paulina (Jackée Harry), but that he felt he needed to divorce her. He wanted to end the marriage because he’d come to care about her. He was convinced it would be best for both of them.

John balked at the whole idea, then made a big song and dance about setting Paulina up with his dad. Sure, Timothy is 97 and recently ensconced in a retirement village, but he’s a young 97. Abe’s jealousy flared and John rightfully pointed out that if his buddy felt so strongly about Paulina then he should cease all talk of a divorce.
Opposite this, Paulina barreled into Marlena’s (Deidre Hall) office and demanded help. What do they have to do to tip Abe into remembering his past? Hypnosis? Electroshock? Ayahuasca retreat? Marlena had no easy answers…but she did float the idea that Paulina could benefit from some therapy all her own. Also, she seriously suggested that Paulina prepare herself for the possibility that Abe may never get his memory back.
Paulina didn’t like that. Not one little bit. But it was better than the alternative — which was losing Abe forever. Soon Paulina and Abe were meeting in the town square and making plans. Abe suggested dinner at the Bistro, but Paulina demurred. Isn’t that for old married couples? “That’s what we are” prodded Abe good-naturedly. “Married, yes. But old? Hell no!” replied Paulina. Still, she loved the idea of dinner with her man, no matter the time of day.
DAYS Recap: Best Laid Plans
At the DiMera mansion, EJ (Dan Feuerriegel) tried to get something resembling the truth out of Stefan (Brandon Barash) and Gabi (Camila Banus). Why exactly did Dimitri (Peter Porte) snap? Why did he want to send them to an early grave? Surely they must have done something to set him off.
Gabi admitted that it was owing to their “noteworthy discovery” that Dimitri was bedding Leo (Greg Rikaart). Oh, and a subsequent blackmail attempt. But, before she could crow about them getting their hands on Dimitri and Megan’s shares in DiMera, Stefan jumped in and claimed they were after a piece of the Von Leuschner pie.
Once husband and wife were alone, Stefan explained the need for secrecy. He was worried about how to put the shares to best use — especially now that he suspected Kristen (Stacy Haiduk) and Peter may switch allegiances.
DOOL Recap: On The Lam
Meanwhile, at University Hospital, EJ interrupted Dimitri’s attempt to convince Leo to help him escape police custody. The reason for his visit? Easy. He wanted what Stefan and Gabi already had. After learning the circumstances of his brother’s betrayal, EJ tore off to confront him and his wife.
That left Leo with time to decide whether or not to help “the love of his life” out of his predicament. At first, he seemed wary. But after a visit from Rafe (Galen Gering) and Jada (Elia Cantu), Leo was in.
