In the Days of our Lives recap for October 17, 2023, Harris got the beginnings of a second chance which didn’t quite jive with Ava’s new line of work.
Days of our Lives Recap Highlights
In addition, Talia bids Jada and Salem goodbye, and EJ and Chad bond over failing to kill Clyde. Now, let’s dig a little deeper into what happened.
Days of our Lives Recap: Courting The Enemy
No sooner had Rafe (Galen Gering) declared to Jada (Elia Cantu) that they needed to find her a new partner than Harris (Steve Burton) appeared. How serendipitous. It’s as if Harris knew that the Salem Police Department was understaffed and in need of his special skill sets.
Oh right…his skill sets. Rafe had a good time busting Harris’s chops, then claimed he’d have to get used to that. That’s right, Harris was hired — conditionally. Mayor Price-Carver (Jackée Harry) still needed to sign off to make it all official. Harris would be a pretty unorthodox hire.

But as far as Rafe was concerned, Harris would be an invaluable asset to the department. What’s more, Rafe (prematurely?) doled out Harris’s first assignment: find out who dropped Susan (Stacy Haiduk) at Edmund’s (Adam Caine).
When apprised, Ava’s (Tamara Braun) heart sank. She wanted to be happy for Harris. Really, she did. But Ava knew exactly who it was that Harris was looking for. Statesville Inmate 49924, AKA Clyde Weston (James Read).
He’d admitted it all to her during their jailhouse visit and then some. And why was Clyde so chatty? Because he wanted Ava to oversee his drugs empire *ahem* make that, lead his pharmaceuticals team. If she declines, a terrible fate awaits Tripp (Lucas Adams). So you’d better believe Mama Bear jumped at the opportunity.
DAYS Recap: Carry On
Though put out to cross paths with Talia (Aketra Sevillian), Belle (Martha Madison) was happy to hear from the young woman that she’d never be dropping in on Shawn (Brandon Beemer) at the police station ever again. Well, she would have been, if it weren’t for Shawn upping sticks. But to be clear, they are still together, in case Talia was wondering.
Belle then implored Talia to do her a favor, namely, stay away. Far, far away. It’s not so much that Belle blames her completely for what happened, but she sure doesn’t want to see the woman who bedded her husband. It would be better if they just agreed to steer clear of each other for, like, ever.
Talia agreed. Then she went and surprised her big sis by announcing that she was moving back to California. And it’s not so much that Belle was driving her out of town as it’s been made impossible for her to stay. How can she work at the hospital with Marlena (Deidre Hall) every day and chance running into Chanel (Raven Bowens) and Johnny (Carson Boatman)? So, without much ado, Talia packed her sad, solo suitcase and said farewell to Jada and Rafe.
DOOL Recap: Bold Musings
Having monologued in the park, Chad (Billy Flynn) headed to join Julie (Susan Seaforth Hayes) and the kids at Abigail’s grave, then swung by the DiMera mansion with his brood in tow so they could play with Rachel’s (Finley Rose Slater) far cooler toys.
Chad congratulated EJ on getting his mother back (even if Susan is headed back to Nashville), and both men agreed that Clyde’s death was a missed opportunity that they’ll both regret.
Days of our Lives Recap: Out Of The Mouths Of Babes
Wendy (Victoria Grace) was horrified to learn of Tripp’s injury and equally galled by the rules and regulations governing unemployment. She also didn’t appreciate her beau’s joke about pounding the pavement with his mother, who also needed a job. (Oh, if only Tripp knew.)
