The DAYS recap for Wednesday, November 9, 2022, sees one man’s act of cowardice topple an entire empire.
In this episode, Leo Stark (Greg Rikaart) is forced to confront the error of his ways, Belle Black Brady (Martha Madison) throws a floundering Chanel Dupree (Raven Bowens) a lifeline, and Abe Carver (James Reynolds) throws his all behind his wife and stepdaughter. Now, let’s dig a little deeper into what exactly happened.
Against his better judgment — yes, he does have better judgment — Sonny Kiriakis (Zach Tinker) showed up for his date with Leo…and by date, we mean a predetermined time of meeting between two people who definitely will not ever, ever, ever be on a “date” date.
For starters, as Sonny was quick to point out, he’s a happily married man. Well, happy-ish. Also, there’s the baggage of Leo blackmailing him into marriage after he and Will Horton (Chandler Massey) thought that they’d murdered him accidentally.
Other than all that, the men decided that they could be cool with one another. Heck, there’s the slimmest, remotest of chances that they might actually become friends.
But first, they’ve got to clear up the little misunderstanding that is Alexander Neil Kiriakis (Robert Scott Wilson) and Chad DiMera (Billy Flynn) accusing him of purposefully handing Sloan Petersen (Jessica Serfaty) back the blackmail material that she’d been holding over Paulina Price Carver’s (Jackée Harry) and Chane’s heads.

He didn’t do that, swore Leo. Yes, he did open up the safe where the file folder had been stashed, and yes, Sloan was there when he did it, but the only thing he gave Sloan was the cash that he owed her…which he counted, very, very slowly…two or three too many times (he’s really bad at math)…with his back to her. Luckily for Leo, Sonny believes his story, and when Sonny tells you that someone is sincere, you can believe him.
It was confession time for Paulina, and not for the first time. As per usual, Abe forgave his wife for keeping major information from him. At this point, the whole thing has just become rote.
As an aside, we, the audience, are still in the dark as to what exactly it is that Chanel may or may not have done while she was in college despite a large portion of the canvas now being clued in. There’s building anticipation, and then there’s just poor story execution. Things weren’t helped when Sloan came to rub it in Paulina’s face what she had done.
Speaking of Chanel…D.A. Melinda Trask (Tina Huang) delighted in the young woman’s plight — how better to stick it to Paulina, one of the few people, man or woman, to ever put Melinda in her place, than to go after her daughter.
But Trask found her efforts to force a confession stymied by Belle’s insertion into the proceedings. And though Mrs. Brady may now very well be Chanel’s lawyer, there’s nothing she can do to prevent Chanel from being held in the police department’s detention cells overnight — a fact that doesn’t escape a preening Melinda.
Don’t look now, but, despite the odds, Alex and Stephanie Johnson (Abigail Klein) may well be on their way to becoming this soap’s newest “It Couple.” But not if a jealous Chad has anything to say about it. The widower may not be ready to commit himself to Stephanie, but that still doesn’t mean that he wants to see her move on with someone else, especially her pseudo-cousin Alex.
