The DAYS recap for Monday, November 21, 2022, sees an innocent (seemingly) paying the price for the sins of others. Guess she should have run when she had the chance!
In this episode, Ava Vitali (Tamara Braun) listens to the evil, murder-minded voice in her head, Xander Cook (Paul Telfer) complicates matters with his attempt to do the right thing, and Bonnie Lockhart Kiriakis (Judi Evans) tells quite the tale. Now, let’s dig a little deeper into what exactly happened.
While EJ DiMera (Dan Feuerriegel) armed himself with a handy dandy Glock from the manse’s safe in anticipation of meeting with Ava, the villainess in question continued to argue with “Charlie.” As Charlie saw it, EJ disrespected Ava in the worst way possible, and he needed to be made to pay — and not monetarily. No, EJ’s payment would be the suffering he experienced at losing his precious mother, Susan Banks (Stacy Haiduk). Susan had to die, and Ava had to be the one to do it…but also get the money. Money is good too.
After freeing a trussed-up Bonnie from the prison that was the Kiriakis summer garden shed, Justin Kiriakis (Wally Kurth) and Alexander Neil Kiriakis (Robert Scott Wilson) begged for an explanation — and Bonnie delivered, for better or for worse.

The whole story was fantastical. A man in a blue suit — the kind favored by Alex, but don’t worry because that sweet-faced, precious boy wasn’t the kidnapper — and a clown mask had taken Bonnie hostage after she stumbled upon Susan. Oh, and the man certainly wasn’t a “real clown,” more like a strongman pretending to be a clown…or something. It made sense to Bonnie and seemed to make some to Rafe Hernandez (Galen Gering), so there’s that.
Speaking of poor Susan, Xander — AKA Mr. Clown — chauffeured her from the Kiriakis estate to the DiMera family crypt, and on the drive over the two conditionally bonded. He learned that she knew all the words to every Elvis Presley song and the order in which they were released and that the “silly hat” on her head was actually for good luck — oh, and it also kept her noggin from getting chilly. She learned that the car they were in wasn’t a clown car — disappointment city! — and that Mr. Clown didn’t have any clown friends; and they both learned that the whole sordid ordeal in which they were embroiled had resulted in feelings of personal frustration.
Once Susan had been deposited at Ava’s hideout — which frustrated Ava to no end, so now they all three had something in common — Xander got some new marching orders: put a bullet in Susan’s head posthaste.
When Xander balked, Ava attempted to force his hand by demasking him. Surely, he’d kill Susan now that she knew exactly who he was.
But try as he might, and boy did he try, Xander just couldn’t pull the trigger. He was a changed man. The love of a good woman had changed him, and he wasn’t about to sully all that by murdering an innocent. And besides, Susan had just gotten done praying for his immortal soul. How do you shoot a woman who uses what may well be her final moments on Earth to pray for your immortal soul?
Ava, having taken her leave of Xander before he’d done the deed she assigned, met with EJ at Salem’s premiere private airstrip, collected her ill-gotten gains, and broke the news that her rival was now an orphan. But wait! Susan, as previously explained, is alive and well, and she threw herself between the two and made a plea for peace. Ava responded by dragging Susan away at gunpoint.
On a lonely stretch of highway, “Charlie” reappeared to his Mommie Dearest and encouraged her to take a literal flying leap. It’d result in their reunion, and by taking Susan with her, she’d really be sticking it to EJ. Ava complied!
